Blanket Drive

The heat is on.

Each year Pepkor IT participates in the Mandela Day initiative. Not only because it is a noble cause but it links into our company DNA. Not so proud that we can’t be thankful for all we have, knowledge that we are privileged, able to help others and respect for those less fortunate.

This year, Pepkor IT partnered up with a local radio station called Bok Radio for a Mandela day blanket drive. The campaign was implemented throughout our main campuses. Kaboni Consultants, one of our suppliers got wind of this drive and challenged Pepkor IT,  our suppliers and service providers to match or better their contribution.   As our many successful projects can attest to, we never shy away from a challenge and this one, we accepted with open arms. What started off as a supplier challenge soon evolved into an inter-company challenge with various departments throwing down the gauntlets.

For the first few days Kaboni was in the lead which only added fuel to the Pepkor IT fire. Store Support soon had 28 blankets, for a team of only 8 this was remarkable. Pepkor Digital with an even smaller team replied with a tally of 29 blankets, having Pepkor IT inching ahead of Kaboni.

Foneworx joined with Kaboni and the suppliers regained the lead again. Not to be outdone Pepkor IT again took up the challenge as well as the lead. Coming down to the final days Pepkor IT was leading the suppliers, Kaboni and Foneworx by a mere 20 blankets.

It wasn’t too long before an incredible 270 blankets were collected and ready to make a difference this winter. However our suppliers never cease to amaze, managing to exceed our expectations at every chance offered. With the campaign drawing to a close, Bytes and DeARX managed to put the suppliers firmly in the lead. However the biggest contribution from Metacom sealed it for the suppliers.

In the end when all the blankets were accounted for and labelled with a personalised message there were a whopping 780 blankets! We delivered some of them that very day as a cold front was fast approaching. The gratitude on the faces of those that received the blankets will always be  our greatest reward.
